The partnership combines Priva's expertise in greenhouse energy optimization with Skye's energy market capabilities to help growers reduce energy costs, unlock new revenue opportunities, and optimize their use of energy assets, while keeping cultivation goals at the center.

Energy flexibility in greenhouse operations

Volatile energy prices, electrification and growing constraints on the electricity grid create both challenges and opportunities for greenhouse growers. Greenhouses have considerable flexibility to optimize energy usage. Within crop requirements, lighting can often be shifted to more cost-efficient moments, while heat buffers and multiple heat sources provide opportunities to optimize when and how energy is produced, stored and consumed. The challenge is to turn this flexibility into value without compromising crop performance.

Combining greenhouse and energy market expertise

Priva has extensive knowledge of greenhouse climate control and energy management, as well as the data and intelligence necessary to optimize energy use. Priva combines knowledge of crop requirements and greenhouse operations with predictive insights, scenario planning, and real-time optimization to help growers transform the complexity of energy management into a clear, actionable energy strategy. Skye provides a platform that connects directly to on-site assets, forecasts available flexibility, and bids it into spot and balancing markets. The platform also dispatches automatically when activations arrive. Together, Priva and Skye help growers make better use of their energy flexibility.

A single strategy for lighting and heating guides energy scheduling and trading, helping growers respond to market opportunities while preserving growing conditions and operational reliability.

This enables growers to:

  • Reduce energy costs through smarter energy consumption.
  • Create additional revenue opportunities by using available capacity in energy markets.
  • Run existing assets, including lighting, CHP, heating systems and thermal storage smarter to save cost.
  • Align energy decisions with cultivation needs and supporting operational reliability.

The partnership starts in Sweden and the Nordic region, with ambitions to expand across Europe as customer demand grows.

Luke Kendall, Managing Director at Priva Energy Solutions: “Greenhouse operations are complex ecosystems, with multiple systems working together to manage climate and crop. In a world where energy prices and markets are becoming increasingly dynamic and complex, combining Priva’s greenhouse expertise with Skye’s energy-market capabilities helps our customers turn that complexity into new value, while ensuring crop performance remains central to every decision.”

As our energy systems become increasingly renewable and dynamic, the flexibility inside industrial assets is becoming one of the most valuable resource in the market," said Tor Espen Steinvik, Co-founder and CEO of Skye. "But that value only materializes if software can close the gap between the greenhouse assets and the electricity trading system. Our platform closes this gap, so the market response happens automatically. No one has to watch prices or override the climate strategy. Together with Priva, that is now available to growers."

Meiny Prins, Executive Chairman of Priva Group and co-owner of Priva: “The future of horticulture is about more than growing more with less. Greenhouses can also play a role in a smarter and more resilient energy system. Together with Skye, we are connecting food and energy to create new value for growers, while protecting what matters most: the crop and a reliable food supply.”

The partnership is part of Priva’s focus on helping growers make better use of energy flexibility and benefit from the changing energy landscape. Priva Energy Solutions focuses on greenhouse energy optimization and energy flexibility, with its official launch planned for September.
