Priva's vision on cloud technology and data security

With the rise of cloud technology and Artificial Intelligence, we are seeing the way we control processes in horticulture change at a rapid pace.

The value of data

Larger quantities of data are coming out of greenhouses and smart online services are providing new insights into the cultivation process based on this data. This offers unprecedented opportunities for the further optimization and sustainability of processes.

Unfortunately, we also see that the interest of cybercriminals in horticulture is increasing. Hackers from various countries are trying to break into horticultural systems with greater frequency and are particularly interested in autonomous growing. Good security for software and process data in horticulture is therefore becoming increasingly important.

Data security is a high priority for Priva, as is the controlled sharing of data, for example in our Priva Open Platform. We are happy to share our vision on the safe and responsible use of cloud technology.

As a Priva customer, you should be able to trust that your process-related and personal data are in good hands. We therefore take organizational and technical measures to secure our products and services. This set of measures ensures that the opportunities offered by cloud technology can be used in a safe and controlled manner. In addition, We have a certified Integrated Management System which implements ISO27001 (Information Security) and 9001 (Quality Management), which ensures our security is state of the industry.

Reliable basis

Developing secure cloud services is a challenging process that requires expertise and a secure and stable cloud platform. We use the Microsoft Azure cloud platform as a reliable foundation. On top of this we develop our cloud services. During the development and use of these services we apply well-known security principles, such as 'security by design' and 'defense in depth'.

Our architects and security specialists work closely with the development teams, so that information security is an integral part of the development process. During development, we already test whether our products and services meet the required security level. And that testing continues even after the first market release.

Testing

To assess whether our products and services are demonstrably adequately secured, they are regularly tested by independent, ethical hackers. This is done during so-called penetration testing (pen testing), in which weaknesses are actively sought. Findings are investigated and resolved so that the security level is continuously increased.

If you would like to know more about these test, you can read the article 'Ethical hackers test security of Priva services'.

Secure access

We also see it as our responsibility to actively help our customers keep their data safe. An example of this is making it possible to use a second factor when logging in, in order to better secure access to Priva cloud services. For example, in addition to a password, a one-off code (for example, an SMS) is also requested. Current users can activate this themselves and for new users we have turned this on by default.

We know that we control essential business processes with our technology, and we do everything we can to ensure that this technology and the process data are properly secured.

In short: Priva sees the possibilities that cloud technology offers as a huge opportunity for its customers and the market, if we deploy this technology in a safe and responsible manner and secure it adequately.
