Priva welcomes CIBSE call for Building engineers to play a ‘key role in sustainability’

A new updated guide on sustainability, published by The Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE), which urges building engineers to do more towards sustainable outcomes, has been welcomed by Priva UK.
The guidance, which was published this month, is an update on the previous 2007 edition. It explores the actions that building services engineers should take to enable their projects to deliver sustainable results, giving clear focus on the areas of work where engineers have greatest control and influence.

The Guide will be of interest to a wide range of building professionals - such as Priva’s end-user customers and network of integration Partners - as well as other disciplines across the built environment chain, including architects, building surveyors, specialist contractors, clients and developers.

For Priva, a leading manufacturer of building automation technology, the messaging in the new guide echoes its own views on the importance of embedded sustainability.

“The built environment accounts for nearly 40% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions,” says Gavin Holvey, Priva UK & Ireland’s Sales Manager. “As such we need to recognise the huge influence building engineers have over the energy use, carbon dioxide emissions, health and wellbeing, water use and other sustainability outcomes of buildings and the wider projects in which they sit.

“We’re delighted to see this Guide shines a light on the important role building services engineers play in delivering on carbon reduction goals, and in driving the sustainability agenda.”

In an impassioned foreword, Susan Hone-Brookes, CIBSE vice-president emphasises the importance of the Guide in embedding sustainability into all aspects of the work engineers do. She calls on engineers to be informed committed, bold and creative in their work and urges them to remember:
‘Your actions as an engineer are pivotal to the successful management of our home planet ecosystem, the safeguarding of all species and the security and prosperity of our future generations.’
